While spot infrared thermometers provide temperature reading of a particular spot with Thermal Imager the area under observation increases as now we are observing many hundreds or thousands of spots which gives us greater information regarding possible failure if any. These are the best instruments for application areas where objects are moving and are greater distances and temperature is pretty high.
